Barred Owl...not Benny the Barred Owl 12-15-21...

Today, Wednesday 12-15-21, I found this Barred Owl. This is probably the same Barred Owl I photographed yesterday. Although, I can’t be sure since I saw two of them together yesterday.

It’s sure tough to get an unobstructed view of the Barred Owl in this particular area. While watching this owl I saw it pass a pellet, but where I was standing it was behind several small branches so I wasn’t able to get the shot. I moved to get a better angle and it looked like it was going to pass another one. This time I had a better view and got both the owl and the falling pellet.

After passing the pellet the owl was on the move. This time I sat about 40 yards away at the base of a big tree while it was behind several branches about 30 yards up in a tree. I hoped I might get a photograph of it flying down toward me for a meal. While I waited there were a few crows flying overhead during the hour I sat waiting, but they never spotted the owl. Then a Blue Jay spotted the owl and perched close to him while making a lot of noise. The Blue Jay didn’t stay long before flying off.

When the Barred Owl flew off it flew in the opposite direction going further back into the trees, so I wasn’t able to get a shot.

I left this area and went to see if I could find either Great Horned Owls in another area. It was late in the afternoon and I didn’t have much time, but I thought I would give it a try. Well, I didn’t find anymore owls.
