Backyard Birds... 04-24-20

Yesterday, 04-24-20, morning I walked into the kitchen to get another coffee when I looked out to check on the bird feeder. I saw this Pileated Woodpecker, who looked out of place, on the feeder. I quickly grabbed my camera and took a couple quick shots without opening the sliding glass door. Although not a great shot, but I got one before he flew off...

The Duck Strut.... 04-22-20

.I was watching my bird feeder after my bike ride to see what might show up. A few minutes later I looked over in my neighbors backyard because they have all the birds . I often see a pair of Mallards fly behind a large spruce tree in their backyard, then a few seconds later they begin their waddle over to some feed. I was actually surprised to see this female Mallard walking by herself from their backyard, but she was not headed directly to my feeder. It looked like she was sneaking to the back of my yard. Then she began her strut to my feeder... she gave me the look when she saw I didn't have any feed for her... after she left I went out and threw some seed on the ground to the satisfaction of the squirrels...

Carlos Avery WMA All - Roads Bike Ride... 04-22-20

Today's 62 mile route took me NE of Champlin to the Carlos Avery WMA. I've never ridden on the dirt roads in the area so I decided to see if the roads were rideable at this time. There were only a couple soft spots (sandy). Although on my way back home I ended up on a mile of a another dirt road with deeper sand. I walked and one legged pushed in several areas. I rode my Seven Evergreen with 30mm tires...if I had my 38mm tires on it would have been much better. Anyways, it was a good day for a bike ride. I saw several Trumpeter Swans and one Sandhill crane...

Some new faces at the bird feeder... 04-21-20

I had a few different birds to the feeders today. The male American Goldfinch, Chipping Sparrow and an immature Red-winged Blackbird. I got a photo or two of some of the other birds that have already been to the feeder...Chickadee, female Goldfinch,Mourning Dove, Dark-eyed Junco, House Finch. When I took a walk to the park I got a photo of the male and female Blue-winged Teal and a Mallard. It was probably the same Blue-winged Teal I photographed a day or so ago. I saw the cardinals again today, but didn't get any photos.
