Aubrey...on the farm in Elk River

A couple months ago Aubrey contacted me wanting to do an outdoor shoot. I've had Aubrey in the studio once before. This time she began by saying she wanted to do something a little dirtier...the next words out of her mouth were...with a chainsaw. I asked her if it would be a Stihl chainsaw and she relied something like, of course! Since it was a Stihl chainsaw I could do the photo shoot.

We set up the date for Saturday, March 24th. Luckily, we've been having very nice weather, because this time of year it could go either way.

I talked to my friend, Bill Houlton, who has a large farm up in Elk River who offered us the use of his property and the use of any of the his buildings.

The day started off very foggy until around noon or so, but then it clear up and was a very nice warm day. One day later and we wouldn't have been so lucky.

I want to thank both Bill and Audrey for a fun day and to Bill for allowing us the use of his buildings.

The first couple images I posted are "Behind the Scene" shots. I took the first one showing Bill and Aubrey. The second image shows me up on the ladder with Aubrey in the loft. Bill Houlton took that shot.

3rd Annual Cops-n-Kids Fishing Tournament

Police officers show the city’s kids how to catch the big one!

Brooklyn Park, MN (June 2, 2011) -- Wednesday, June 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m., Brooklyn Park police officers will take off their uniforms, throw on a t-shirt and shorts and almost 200 of the city’s neediest kids fishing! It’s all part of a community outreach effort to show children between the ages of 7 and 12 that police officers not only protect and serve, but love to fish! It will be held at Champlin Mill Pond (Doris A. Kemp Park) in Champlin, located at Highway 169 and West River Road.

Each child will be assigned to an officer who will teach them the basics of fishing. At the end of the event, an awards ceremony will be held where kids will be awarded prizes for the biggest fish. A professional tournament trailer from Full Throttle Outdoors will also be there to give the youngsters an idea of what a real fishing tournament is like.

As part of the event, each child will receive a rod, reel and tackle box to take home, courtesy of Target. Cabela’s and Dairy Queen also donated supplies and food for the event. The event was the brainstorm of Inspector Mark Bruley, who is the police department’s SWAT commander and an avid, award winning fisherman. He also loves kids and wants children to know police officers are their friends.

Also, Minnesota Vikings mascot Viktor the Viking and some of the team’s cheerleaders will be in attendance from 2 to 3 p.m. to cheer on and present awards to the boys and girls.

Fishing begins at 11 a.m. and the awards ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.

Laura Croteau

A couple months ago Laura and I set up our photo shoot for Saturday, 03-17-12. This was the first time I've photographed her, although I've photographed her sister, Melissa, a few times.

We spent most of the time in the studio, then we were able to spend an hour or so outside behind the studio. Thanks to our unseasonably warm weather.

There is a link to more photos of Laura after these posted images.

Savannah & Mom (Maria)...in the Florida Keys

When I was down in the Florida Keys this year I met Savannah and her mother, Maria. It was my second to last day in Key Colony Beach when I met them at the Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon for the "Sunset Celebration". I asked Maria if I could take a photo of her daughter. She agreed and we began to talk about where each of us were from and about photography. I took a few more shots of Savannah with the available light then we parted ways.

That evening I sent Maria a message via Facebook that I would meet her at Sunset Park in Key Colony Beach where I would photograph the both of them using my Elinchrom battery pack lights. She called me the next morning and things were set for that evening.

Savannah was a natural in front of the camera. I wish I would have met them earlier in my vacation so we could have set up some other shoots. Maybe another day!

Anyways, it was a real pleasure meeting them both.

Tab Benoit's Swampland Jam....

featuring Michael Doucet of BeauSoleil and Chubby Carrier.

On Saturday, 03-10-12, I went to see Tab Benoit at The Cabooze on the West Bank in Minneapolis. The event was called Tab Benoit's Swampland Jam because Tab had along two other excellent musicians...Michael Doucet and Chubby Carrier.

The Butanes, local group, open the night at 8 pm followed by Tab. Curtis Obeda, of The Butanes, later on he got up and played with Tab and the others.

This event was appropriately named because it was a jam to remember. The show sold out out! The crowd was really enjoying the evening!

Earlier in the day Slick saw I was planning on going to the show so she wanted to know if I would be her "designated driver". We got to The Cabooze at about 7:50 pm and there was already a line that wrapped around the building that was several people wide. Luckily Slick had purchased tickets earlier so at least we were guaranteed to get in the door.

Once the doors opened at 8 pm it took us 20 minutes to get inside. Slick went off to find her friends. I made my way to the stage.

I grabbed an open spot next to the stage and parked myself there for the next four hours. I knew I wasn't going to be able to move around to get a variety of different shots, but at least I wasn't in the back row.

The show started off with The Butanes playing at 9 pm. My The Butanes Blog Post...

Tab and his band started playing around 10:30 pm. It appeared Tab was having a good night. Although he broke a string on his guitar for the first several songs. After each song he would have to switch out his guitar. At one point Tab made the comment he was pretty sure we would like to hear his songs while playing all six strings.

Michael Doucet of BeauSoleil joined Tab and his band for a few songs before Chubby Carrier came out. Curtis Obeda, of The Butanes, even got on stage to continue the Jam!!

The Butanes / The Cabooze

I know it's been a little over a month since I posted last. I was sick during my photo shoot with Brenna (last post) that lasted about three weeks. I hardly ever get sick, but this time it hit me hard. I left for Florida on 02-13-12 and stayed there for three weeks. I've posted other images from Florida on my Facebook page, but nothing on the blog. I will eventually post some of the images to my blog and website.

Anyways, Tab Benoit was headlining at The Cabooze on 03-10-12. Three members of The Butanes played a set before Tab took the stage.

The Cabooze was so packed that I made my way to the stage and grabbed a spot. I couldn't leave from it otherwise I would be trying to take photographs of cars passing on the street. It was crazy!

I couldn't move around the stage to get some different angles to my shots. What you see is what I got!
