Hoot and Give a Hoot 02-13-22

Hoot and Give a Hoot 02-13-22

On Sunday, 02-13-22, I went out to check on Hoot and Give a Hoot. I didn’t bring the long lens out today. Here are some photos from a distance. Hoot is alert and Give a Hoot is sleeping.

Then I went out to another area where there’s another Great Horned Owl couple. I found these two Great Horn Owls last year. I’ve only been out there a few times this year.

When I got to where I wanted to go I sat and listened. Twenty minutes later I heard over ten loud squawks about 50 yards behind me. When I stood up to look I caught the glimpse  of one owl flying very low who was probably hunting. I don’t know if this was the one making the call or if the female on a nest who was calling letting him know she was hungry.

I walked over toward the area near where I saw the owl flying and just sat and listened some more. It just started snowing and the wind picked up so it was much harder to hear plus it was right in my face. I can’t say for sure, but I thought I heard the ending of a territorial call, but I heard two softer squawks.

Last year I found an abandon nest in a tree where I was sitting, but earlier this year I found the tree had been blown down.
