The Steepwater Band...Live & Humble CD...Famous Dave's BBQ & Blues Club

Back on, July 4, 2013. The Steepwater Band played at Famous Dave's BBQ & Blues Club (side note: that's my image that Famous Dave's uses as their cover photo) in Calhoun Square in Minneapolis, MN. I had seen the band play the year before in Durand, WI at the Blues on the Chippewa and I had enjoyed listening to them as I photographed them. Later on, I was contacted by the band to see if they could use some of my images for their upcoming "Live" CD.  I provided some images of which three were used on the inside of the CD. The next three images are the ones that were used.  The only thing that could have been better was...they don't have the proper credit for me...instead of having Chuck Ryan Photography they have me as Charles Ryan Photography.

Another Evening in Minneapolis along the Mississippi River taking some night shots....Chuck Ryan Photography

Right after work on Friday, 12-27-13, I decided to head down to the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis to do some night photography. I hadn't done any night stuff in about a month, so with the weather a little bit warmer I decided to do it. 

On my drive there I decided to go to the Northern Pacific Bridge Number Nine...the next bridge downstream from the 10th Avenue Bridge.

Last year a friend of mine came along on one of these night walks and we started here at this bridge...It was a good thing because my battery on my Suburban died. Here is my blog post on that adventure...Click Here . I got a new battery, but then that battery was also bad....

Besides the B & W image I got two different shots from this evening.  The 4th image where the view is from the downstream side of the walk bridge. The other image that was different was the 6th image. I got off the bridge and went up the hill on the U of M campus side and took a shot back toward Minneapolis. I was able to get the walk bridge on one level and the 10th Avenue Bridge and the I-35W Bridge on another giving way to a better view of Minneapolis.

MMA: Sterling Entertainment Group & Driller Promotions Present: Caged Chaos at Canterbury IV

On Saturday, 12-14-13, I was back photographing Sterling Entertainment Group & Driller Promotions Presents: Caged Chaos at Canterbury IV. I was able to post process some images of this MMA event a few days afterwards. I haven't gone through all my images yet, because I had some computer issues and then I had some other photo shoots to do....eventually I'll get through them...and if there are a few more images that I think I should post process I'll do so. There were a few fights that ended very quickly... I'm not sure how many fighters/fights I haven't posted any images of yet...this event I put all the images in a single gallery. The link to more images is right after the images that are post here on this blog post... toward the bottom of the page...

Ivan Ivackovic's Book with my photo of Ana Popovic

In August one of my favorite performers, Ana Popovic, sent me a message. Her friend, Ivan Ivackovic, in Serbia was writing a book about Serbian musicians that made a career outside of their home country. He was writing a short story about her and he wanted to use one of my images for his book.

Ivan contacted me on 12-25-13 and said the book was finished and it would be mailed to me by the publisher. Since the book is in Serbian I'll have to look at the pictures because I have no idea when Ana will have time to translate/read it to me. Thank you Ivan for choosing one of my images for the book.

Below is an image of the book from Ivan's Facebook page and the image of Ana that was used for the book.

The image of Ana was one of several I took of her when she played at Famous Dave's BBQ & Blues Club on 03-29-13.

Tali

On Saturday, 12-21-13, Tali and I had a photo shoot at my studio in Minneapolis, MN. Tali and I became Facebook "friends" after I photographed the Emerald Spring Fashion Show at the Skyway Theater in Minneapolis earlier this year. She was one of several young ladies and guys who participated in that event. 

When I looked at some of her images it appeared to me that she was very comfortable in being in front of the camera. A couple weeks ago I contacted her to see if she would be interested in doing a shoot in the studio. Although I didn't have anything specific in mind... just shoot some of my normal lighting set-ups. Obviously, Tali did her homework and saw that I use a red gel on a black background in one of my set-ups. One of her outfits was a red leather jacket, black top, red & black pants with red high heel shoes...this outfit couldn't have been any better for this particular lighting set-up.

Tali was very easy to work with and with any luck we will work together again.

Some Night Shots along the Mississippi River in Minneapolis...

I finally got out to do some night photography aka low light photography on Saturday, 11-16-13. The last time I got out to do this type of photography was in January 2013 walking around Minneapolis/St. Paul area , then in February in the Florida Keys.  It seems I only get out to do this type of photography in the fall and winter. The are a few reasons for going out during those seasons. I only had one close encounter with a "drunk" person.

On Saturday I went back to the area of the Stone Arch Bridge and 3rd Avenue Bridge going over the Mississippi River. I like photographing along the Mississippi River.

During the day it was cloudy with mostly a light rain. I like going out to do photography in the city while the pavement is wet..both day or night. The reflections on the streets from the different lights make for a more interesting image. When I left my house there were just a few sprinkles...mostly a fine mist. I wasn't completely prepared for a hard rain...just because I was hoping it wouldn't rain.

I came away with about 10 images from the evening. I posted three of them to this post. The others are uploaded to my website under Night Photography- Minneapolis/St. Paul. There's a link to the gallery after these posted images.
