Dragon Festival 2010

This past week-end, July 10 & 11, 2010 the 2010 Dragon Festival was held in St. Paul a Lake Phalen. There were dragon boat races, different Asian traditional dances, vendors and food.

I went on Sunday which was a little bit cooler, but not by much. There were more clouds, but the sun was hot once it came from behind the clouds. I had no plans of attending, but I decided to go at the last minute; since I haven’t been able to get out and shoot. Work has been getting in the way! 

Since I wasn’t part of any photography group I wasn’t able to get up close to the Dragon boats. There were a couple different photography groups who had posted this information but since I didn’t sign up I was given any pass to get up close to the boats.

 I had a good time! I spent most of my time taking photos of the young dancers from the  different dance groups doing traditional Asian dances in their colorful costumes. 

There were times where I would walk around and take some candid shots as well. All these shots were taken in natural light.

Three Views of Rachel H.

I was fooling around in Photoshop trying some different looks with a photo of Rachel. The first photo I took of Rachel last September. The second photo I used only Lightroom 3.0 adjustments. The final photo I process in Photoshop CS5. I was trying to make her skin very soft (on purpose), but I was trying to get a more painted on look. I didn't get what I was envisioning, but I posted it anyways.

Moo Cards

My new cards arrived from Moo.com on Saturday. These cards have my information on one side and one of my photos on the other. I believe I have 39 different photos on the cards.

The photo below shows some of the cards with some of the different photos I used on the back.

I was planning on going to shoot some fireworks last night, but decided yesterday evening not too. I was on call at work this past week-end and it continues the rest of this week. I needed to go into work for 14 hours on Saturday, then another 8 hours on Sunday. I decided just to go home and not go anywhere. It would be my luck that I would be out late and get called in. It has happened before!

Frank Doorhof

“Why fake it when you can create it?”

Frank is mostly a fashion and glamour photographer from the Netherlands. I began following Frank since the early part of this year when he was the guest blogger on  

Scott Kelby's blog.

         

I like what Frank does and it appears he’s a great instructor, although I’ve never been to  one of his workshops. I would like to do so!

A couple weeks ago Frank announced on his blog that he’s joined Scott Kelby Training and he'll be doing some videos for Scott Kelby's on-line training. I am a NAPP member and I also subscribe to the on-line training. I look forward to viewing them later this summer/fall.

Last year I saw these two guys, who are living in Colombia, talking about their “Backpacker’s Studio” on a YouTube video. They use the 28” and 50” Westcott Apollo softboxes with speedlights. In fact, this was where I got the idea of getting the 28” x 28” Apollo softbox. So far I’ve used it on two photo shoots and I really like it!

I forgot about them until I recently ran across some more video’s and their new website. The videos are very informative and funny at the same time. Check them out!
