Pileated Woodpeckers & Wood Duck 05-29-26
Today, 05-29-26, I checked in on the Pileated Woodpeckers. I have enough photos of the adults, but I hoped to get some of the nestlings. Well, they are still too small. I first spotted the beaks of two nestlings three days ago.
The adults were feeding them from outside the nest, but when finished they joined the little ones in the nest. I believe today I only got one photo of one of the adults and the partial beak of one nestling together.
On 05-23-26 when I was photographing the Pileated Woodpeckers the female was inside the nest when a female Wood Duck tried getting into the nest hole. The female Wood Duck probably didn’t know anyone was home. Needless, to say there was some excitement on everyones part.
I was able to photograph it when it happened. Here is the link of it on my blog:
While I was photographing the Wood Ducks today they were back near the nest. The female Pileated had just returned to the nest when the female wood duck stopped a couple yards away watching the nest. This time she knew someone was home. The male wood duck stopped close to the female. I didn’t have a good shot of the female wood duck, but I was able to photograph the male. I included a few pictures of him.
